FAQ

What is a Capture the Flag (CTF)?

Read this: http://ctftime.org/ctf-wtf/

What kind of CTF is this?

It's a Jeopardy-Style CTF, designed to be friendly to beginners. This means there will be multiple challenges from different areas of computer security, and you can pick whatever you want to work on!

Where can I get help?

You can always join our Slack channel #ctf@gsoc-slack.honeynet.org and ask questions.

Who organizes the CTF?

The CTF is organized by Honeynet member @maximilianhils. Some challenges are heavily inspired by previous work from @eb_CTF and @EatSleepPwnRpt. Check out their recent CTFs for more fun!

Is there a flag format?

Yes! All flags look like this: __flag__{...}

How are challenge points calculated?

Challenge scores are dynamically calculated, the formula is: round(500 / (1 + (α * (solves - 1)) ** β)) with α = 0.5 and β = 1.5. Please note that the coefficients are subject to change depending on the number of players. Additionally, there is a small "first blood" bonus of up to 10 points, so don't hold back on flags.

Can I get money instead of tickets?

Unfortunately no, but you can gift your ticket to a deserving student.
